------------------ psychlotron.org.uk ------------------ Name of resource: Piaget 5: preoperational thinking Author(s): Aidan Sammons & Paul Cline Specification: AQA-B Details: Slides on preoperational thinking, with focus on failure to conserve. Embedded activities: 1) Have conservation test equipment and instructions dotted about the room and let the students try them out. 2) After discussing possible problems with the validity of the tests let the students have a go at redesigning them. I allow them to use anything in the room including a box of toys/props etc. After they've all have a while to think about it choose a couple to demo their improved tests and ask the class to assess whether the new version is more valid than the standard Piagetian task. 3) Finish with a demo of some of the classic 'improved' versions (e.g. conservation of number with 'naughty teddy').
